Activities (2008)
Free peace books -- Lottery system to give away books for pre-school to middle school. The books teach peaceful ways to live and behave.
Circle the Lagoon for Peace -- a great photo op of Loveland commitment. “Let there be peace on earth, and let it begin with me!” This is the finale for the Festival. Come and join in.
Music on the Lily Pad -- (see schedule)
World Peace Flag Ceremony -- Children are invited to make world flags at the Festival. Children will parade flags (their own or another) around the Lassgoon at 4:30 pm.
John Denver Memorial Peace Cloth -- This traveling peace cloth will be hung for the Festival. The cloth was created after the singer’s death in 1997 as a visible expression of his message of peace for the planet. People from all over the world have contributed pieces to the work so that it is now a 2,000 foot tapestry three feet wide. We will have 50 feet of the cloth at the Festival.
Walbye Dove Sculpture -- George Walbye, noted Loveland bronze sculptor, created a dove paper weight to help raise money for PEACE IN THE PARK festivals. They will be for sale at the festival.
Fadhli Mother Earth Sculpture -- Dr H A (Sam) Fadhli, internationally acclaimed artist who lives in Larimer County west of Loveland created this peace piece specifically for the 2008 Festival. His monumental Peacemakers bronze is in the President George H. Bush Library, Texas A & M University, Texas
Sidewalk Peace Murals -- Professional artists will create a peace mural on the sidewalk of the park and assist amateurs in collaborating on a second peace mural. Remember how much fun it was to write on the sidewalk when you were young? Here’s a chance for children of all ages to bring their creativity to Loveland’s sidewalks.
School Peace Activities -- Students will demonstrate/explain peace activities in their schools
Dances of Universal Peace led by Sa’ra Rain, will give you a chance to participate and learn. Put on your happy feet. Leave your fears and worries behind and join in the dances. Let the rhythm of peace flow through your body.
Post-secondary peace and justice studies -- Do you ever ask yourself: What shall I be when I grow up? Or maybe you are grown up and you wonder what will I be when I REALLY grow up. Either way, opportunities await you in the fields of peace and justice. Stop by our post-secondary booth.
Parachute -- Children are taught peace by working/playing peacefully. The parachute game is one very active way to practice cooperation.
Storyteller, Balloons, Magician, Face Painting -- We encourage playing for peace, as well.
